The joy of success

The joy of success is a powerful emotion, but it is far more complex than a simple feeling of victory. It is the precise moment when effort transforms into results, creating a positive shockwave in our minds.

Here's how we can break down this form of joy:

Assignment

1. Validating the effort (The "Why")

Success is only truly sweet because of the journey. What makes joy intense is not the goal itself, but the confirmation that your will has had an impact on reality. It's the shift from "I think I can" to "I did it."

The two faces of this joy

We can distinguish two types of satisfaction in success:

  • Exhilaration (Short term): This is the surge of adrenaline and dopamine immediately following the announcement of good news. It is intense, noisy, and physical.

  • Fulfillment (Long term): This is the feeling of competence that takes hold. You feel more solid, more legitimate. It's a quiet joy that strengthens self-esteem.

Succeed with "Simplicity and Presentness"

By revisiting your previous pillars, the joy of success becomes healthy when:

Savor the moment: Don't immediately jump into the next challenge. Take the time to celebrate.

We keep it simple: Knowing how to appreciate a "small" success (successfully preparing a dish, finishing a book) with as much fervor as a great diploma.

The hidden side: The trap of the aftermath

The risk of success is the "emptiness" that sometimes follows reaching a peak. The true joy of success lies in seeing victory not as an end, but as renewed energy for what comes next.

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." — Winston Churchill
